Hello readers! I’m back after focusing on my basic sciences coursework (which explains my blogging hiatus!). As promised in my last post about accepting admission offers, today I’m walking you through the enrolment process.
The Enrolment Process
While some time has passed, I remember the enrolment process being quite straightforwards. Here’s what happens:
After accepting your offer and paying the $1,000 seat deposit, you’ll receive an admission package via email from the admissions office. This comprehensive document outlines everything you need to know about enrolment steps, courses, and school policies. You’ll also be connected with enrolment staff who will guide you through the documentation process.
The required documents are standard:
- Passport photo
- Government ID
- Proof of sufficient funds for island living
- Health examination form
- Academic reference letters
- Additional basic documentation
Tuition and Financial Considerations
Once your paperwork is submitted, the final step is tuition payment. This is due roughly one month before each term begins, along with an electronically signed contract that you’ll receive via email.
Financial Aid Options
For Canadian students:
- Provincial/federal loans (OSAP, StudentAid BC, etc.)
- Bank lines of credit
For American students:
While government loans aren’t available, SJSM’s website outlines several loan options for those who can’t secure private funding through family or friends.
What’s Next?
After enrolment, you’re ready to begin your medical school journey! Though I should mention – while the enrolment process is straightforward, medical school itself is quite the challenge!
I’ll be sharing more content during my break between basic sciences and clinical sciences. I’d love to hear what topics interest you! Drop a comment below or reach out to me directly at slp.to.md@gmail.com
