Wrapped up my first clinical placement of third ye

Wrapped up my first clinical placement of third year today! Six weeks of outpatient internal medicine flew by in the blink of an eye. I’m so grateful to have started third year at this clinic with super kind and patient physician preceptors. Now onto the inpatient leg of my internal medicine rotation for the next six weeks!

It’s my last week off before starting my third yea

It’s my last week off before starting my third year of medical school! The past four months have flown by, since finishing up basic sciences on the island, passing the NBME CBSE, passing Step 1, completing all the paperwork required to enrol in clinical rotations and, finally, moving to Chicago!

Third year will be eons different than the first two years. I’m so excited to bring what I’ve learned in the classroom to the clinical setting. Actual patient care is really what makes being in healthcare so special.

Good luck to everyone else starting out with their clinical rotations too! We’ve got this 🙌

Toronto ➡️ Chicago

The first 5 days! My mom and I arrived in Chicago on Saturday and explored the city together. Took a walking tour of the architecture and saw the DeLorean from Back to the Future on Broadway 😍 We also hopped on a boat for a tour on the river!

My cat, Cinder is settling in well - he was just a tad grumpy to be in the car again 😋

T-11 days until my first rotation begins. Any guesses what I’m starting on?

We had a wonderful ceremony celebrating the completion of the basic sciences of our medical degree. I was honoured to represent my class once more, after holding to roles of class representative and student government president over the past 20 months. I already miss the island and seeing these faces everyday. But now it’s onward and upward to clinical rotations after Step 1!

Next up: Step 1. Incredibly grateful for the past 20 months. The challenging times were worth this wonderful sense of accomplishment 100-fold. Today was bittersweet, as I left the island for the last time. I’m going to miss seeing the wild goats and chickens everyday, and of course my classmates and the wonderful professors at SJSM. Anguilla will always have a piece of my heart. Homeward bound to 🇨🇦 after a quick decompress in SXM. Looking *so* forward to the second half of this degree 😊

Had a wonderful break for the holidays and now back to the island. For the fifth and final time!!!

The fifth term at SJSM is our basic science review course; putting it all together before taking Step 1. Super nerve wracking that I’m finally at this stage, but also very exciting 😊 MD5: Lets go!!
