Hello readers! Thanks for bearing with me while I finished up my basic sciences instead of spending my time blogging haha. So, I left off explaining the process of accepting an offer of admission and promised that I would, next, discuss the enrolment process. So here we are!
It’s been a while now, but from what I can recall, the enrolment process was straight forward. Once you’ve accepted your offer of admission and paid the $1000 fee to hold your seat, you will receive an email from the admissions office with your admissions package. This document contains all of the information you need to know about the steps for enrolment, courses, policies, etc. You are also connected with enrolment personnel, to whom you will be sending all of your required documentation. The documents you are required to provide are straight-forward – things like a passport photo, government ID, proof of sufficient funds to live on the island, a health exam form, etc.
Once you have submitted all of your paperwork, the last thing you really need to do is pay your tuition! Tuition is due approximately one month prior to the start of each term, and you are required to submit a “signed” (electronically” contract each term, which is sent to your email.
A note about tuition, Canadians are eligible to apply for both provincial/federal loans (through OSAP, StudentAid BC, etc), as well as a line of credit through the bank. Americans, unfortunately, don’t have those options. If you are unable to secure funding privately, either through family, friends, etc., be sure to check out SJSM’s web page that lays out some loan options. You can find it here!
From there it’s smooth sailing! Well, aside from the part that this is medical school, and medical school is a very challenging endeavour haha.
Anyways, I’ll be back soon with some more content, now that I’m on my break between basic sciences and clinical sciences. Leave a comment below and let me know what topics you’re interested in hearing about from me and, as always, feel free to send me an email at slp.to.md@gmail.com.
